At the American International School of Mozambique, the overall aim of the counseling program is to promote and enhance the development of the whole student. Our main areas of focus are social and emotional, academic, career counseling and the university application process.
In the Primary School, the counseling program is delivered through classroom guidance activities which are often linked to our Programme of Inquiry as well as through Kelso’s Choices, a conflict management program for children.
In the Secondary School, the counseling program is delivered through our life-skills curriculum which also guides the Advisory Program. The Advisory Program is where groups of ten students meet regularly with their assigned advisor to discuss topics relating to the social and emotional growth of teenagers.
At AISM our counseling staff has an open-door policy, allowing students to consult with their counselors at any time. Students may also be referred to the counselors by teachers, parents, other students or administrators.
