National Honor Society (NHS)The National Honor Society is an organization whose objective is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote worthy leadership, and encourage the development of character in secondary school students. Membership in the NHS is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a Grade 10, 11, or 12 student. Students who wish to be members of the National Honor Society must demonstrate a high level of achievement and integrity in the four aforementioned realms of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. To find out more about AISM's NHS Chapter, click here.
To be considered for NHS membership, a candidate must have: • Grade 10: using IB grading, 47 out of 56 points (8-class schedule) • Grade 11 & 12: using IB grading, 35 out of 42 points (6-class schedule) The above point averages reflect a 3.4 cumulative grade point average (g.p.a.) |
Once the grade eligibility has been met, students are invited to apply and must demonstrate accomplishment in the areas of leadership, service, and character. They will write a written statement for this purpose. A faculty council appointed by the Secondary School Principal reviews applications to determine membership. If selected, a student then participates in an induction ceremony. All chapter members are expected to uphold high standards of excellence in all four areas to remain in the chapter. If a student is not selected, they will have the opportunity to re-apply as long as they are not in the latter part of second semester of Grade 12. For more information on our NHS chapter, please refer to AISM’s NHS Bylaws.
Students who were NHS members at previous schools who transfer to AISM are automatically part of the chapter, expected to uphold the same standards as other members to maintain membership. |
