Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Welcome to Our Community

On behalf of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Executive Committee, welcome to the American International School of Mozambique (AISM). The PTA is a volunteer organization of dedicated, hardworking, positive AISM parents and guardians who come together to achieve common goals.

The executive committee has been working hard to ensure a year filled with wonderful experiences for our children, ways to support academic excellence, and opportunities for all parents to make a real and positive impact on our community. The PTA is involved in every aspect of the school. We keep you informed and provide a forum for voicing opinions. We promote enriched educational programs and raise funds to provide additional school resources. We also organize and host fun social programs as well as support our teachers and staff.

The participation of every member of the PTA is vital to AISM’s success. Please consider contributing by becoming a committee member and volunteering your time; whether you can offer 1 hour a month or 1 hour a year. There are opportunities to contribute in every possible way - from home, in school and in many different ways throughout the year. Every year we welcome our new and returning families. We are very excited to see our PTA grow and develop with your input, talent, and ideas.

If you have any questions, please feel free to speak with an Executive Committee member in person, or send an email to [email protected].

Parent WhatsApp groups

The AISM PTA has created WhatsApp groups for parents. The purpose is to share information between parents. In order to ensure that the spirit and intent of these groups is maintained, the PTA has created usage guidelines. Please engage with each other and be mindful of these points. After reading these, please join and get involved!
Please sign up to be connected to the PTA and information throughout the year.
AISM PTA WhatsApp Usage Guidelines
By joining these groups you agree to abide by the following guidelines:
  1. These groups are intended as a convenient way to distribute important school information and create a sense of community and connection.
  2. The groups should not be used to post private or confidential messages or express personal opinions or gossip.
  3. Avoid Inappropriate posts. These include using inappropriate language, personal attacks or insulting messages, bullying of any member, voicing grievances with the school or with individual members of the group. Inappropriate use of the WhatsApp groups should be reported to the PTA at [email protected].
  4. For individual concerns, please raise these directly with the concerned parent, teacher or, where necessary, AISM leadership.
  5. The group administrator will have the right to restrict admission, remove or ban anyone from the group without any notification.

New Family Program & Resources

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) would like to welcome your family to the AISM Buffalo family. We know the first few months of settling in can be challenging, and we would like to make this transition as smooth as possible. The PTA invites our new families to be a part of our Partner Family Program.
Our Partner Family Program is designed to match new families with other families within the AISM community.  A Partner Family can help you in many ways, including the following:
  • Give you a brief tour of Maputo (malls,  restaurants, parks, etc.)
  • Take you to the grocery store
  • Arrange a playdate with children of similar ages
  • Help older students find lockers, get to class and navigate AISM
  • Introduce you to other families who may share your interests
  • Most of all, answer any questions you have about AISM, life in Maputo, etc.
We have a few documents that you may find helpful if you are new to Mozambique.  They include useful phrases in Portuguese, medical resources, a simple map of sites of interest, bus tour details and a resource guide.
  • Maputo Map
  • Medical contact information
  • Malaria information
  • Portuguese phrases
  • FIT resource list
If you would like to participate in this optional program, please contact the PTA at [email protected]. One of our Partner Family Program coordinators will be in touch with you. We look forward to seeing your family at one of our PTA events this year!
